Nashville, TN – Last night, Golf Digest hosted their annual “Golfers Who Give Back” event, during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and presented Jake Owen, Peyton Manning, and Phil Mickelson with the prestigious Arnie Award (named after the late Arnold Palmer).
Owen was emotional after being called to the stage by legendary sports broadcaster Jim Nantz. Owen said, “I don’t do things for awards, but this is by far the most humbling think I could ever achieve.” His parents, Steve and Mitzi Owen, were in the audience last night. His father, who is a cancer survivor, taught him to play golf at a very young age. It was a very special night for the happy and healthy Owen family. See the full story here.
After receiving the award, Owen reflected on the honor, sharing the news with fans on Instagram:
Owen, an avid golfer with a 2 handicap, tells Golf Digest, “The greatest part for all of us, golfers and entertainers, is being able to help one another.” When asked if he had to choose between music and golf he says with a smile, “I feel like I’ve been able to touch more people with a guitar and a song than I would have with a putter or a driver.”
Owen has played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for the past five years and is paired again this week with his good friend, Jordan Spieth. Practice rounds begin today.
“If He Ain’t Gonna Love You” is Owen’s current single and the follow-up to his sixth No. 1 single, “American Country Love Song,” from the No. 1 album American Love.
