If there was ever a song for right now, James Robert Webb‘s latest single “Think About It” is it. Released off his self-titled, Buddy Cannon produced album, “Think About It” is more than a title; it’s a suggestion, and perhaps even an order. During these times of quarantine, there is a lot of thinking and self-reflection being done in a way that gets one to reconnect to their family, nature, and themselves. Written by Webb, Alex Dooley and Shelby Lee Lowe, the lyrics urge one to abandon the technological for a few minutes, get out of the individual mentality, look to those around them and go back to a more simpler, peaceful time:
When’s the last time you went outside
Shoveled creek bank clay, made fresh mud-pies
Had nothing to do but felt the morning dew on your bare feet
When’s the last time you made a stranger smile
Looked at a cloud through the eyes of a child
Watched a red sunset or got soaking wet
With bubblegum in your cheek
I wonder how much happier I would be
If I listed to the child inside of me
On Friday (7/31), Webb released the single’s music video, and the imagery just drills the song’s message home. A young boy, representing our innocence of days past, walks through a field to a lake, taking time to look at his surroundings, kicking a ball while walking barefoot with the grass beneath his feet – absorbing everything in wide eyed, the way we should be.
