New Album To the Passage of Time Out August 27

Today, Mississippi-born, Texas-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Jason Eady has shared the official video for his latest song “French Summer Sun” from his forthcoming album To the Passage of Time, available August 27. The video features photos and video of servicemen and women shared with Eady by his collaborators in the Sequestered Songwriters group, a relief fund founded by Eady and his wife Courtney Patton during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide support for full-time musicians.

“I first had the idea for this video as soon as I started thinking about the song itself,” explains Eady. “The idea of the song came from visiting Anzio Beach in Italy, where my grandfather fought during World War II. While I was there I thought a lot about how it’s not just one life that’s lost in battle, but all of the future lives and generations. I wanted something that visually worked with the song, but didn’t distract the listener.

“The idea of having photos of family members that served in the military was important so I reached out to all of the writers in the Sequestered Songwriters group, and asked them to send me photos of family members or friends that they felt would be suitable for the video. When it came time to put it all together we called Casey Pierce, a videographer based in Nashville, who also designed the cover art for my album I Travel On, to take the idea and bring it to life. Casey nailed it, and I think perfectly captured the realness of the lives of the soldiers who have fought.”

Eady released “French Summer Sun” last month to praise from Holler, who said the song “…showcases his storytelling prowess. Just when you think the song is going in one direction, he surprises you with a haunting epiphany,” and Saving Country Music who gave the song a 10/10 rating, saying “It’s one thing to write a great song. It’s another to craft one from such over-covered subject matter, and have it resonate and impact so powerfully.” Eady has also shared new songs, “My Best Friend” and “Back To Normal,” the latter of which was described by Rolling Stone as an “on-the-nose exploration of what happens — God willing — a few months from now when the pandemic ends and we re-emerge into the light.”

With its nuanced exploration of aging and loss and the fragility of life, To the Passage of Time arrives as the Mississippi-bred artist’s most lyrically complex and compelling work to date. As Eady reveals, the album’s understated power stems in part from the intentionality of the recording process, which involved enlisting Band of Heathens’ Gordy Quist as producer and gathering many of Eady’s favorite musicians he’s played with over the years (including Noah Jeffries on mandolin and fiddle, Mark Williams on upright bass and cello, Brian Ferguson on drums, and Geoff Queen on Dobro, pedal steel, and lap steel).
