NASHVILLE COUNTRY MUSIC RECORDING ARTIST TELLS A HEARTFELT STORY
ABOUT GRANDDAD IN TEAR-INDUCING ORIGINAL SONG
AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 21 CONTESTANT RELEASES BRAND NEW SINGLE
TO THOUSANDS OF FANS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jon Wayne Hatfield delivered a powerful and moving performance of his original song “Tell Me Ray” on national television when his American Idol audition aired this past week on the iconic show’s 21st season. The brand new single was released today, Friday, March 3, to hundreds of thousands of eager fans awaiting the song’s release after hearing it for the first time on Idol. Written solely by Hatfield, “Tell Me Ray” tells the striking true story of the Nashville recording artist’s granddad, Ray. Being raised by his grandma and granddad, Hatfield has always been closer to his grandparents than most. “Tell Me Ray” was inspired by a time when Ray was struggling following the death of his wife – Hatfield’s grandma. At the time of her passing, no one knew the truth about Ray other than her. Jon Wayne Hatfield’s American Idol audition tells the incredible story of Ray finding the support he needed from his grandson when he came out to him as gay following her death. When asked about the single release, Hatfield commented, “I wrote this song a couple of years ago about my grandpa just after the loss of my grandma. I’ve been getting tons of requests for it since I played it on American Idol, and I’m thrilled to be able to share it with everyone now. I hope other people who have experienced a loss will find it comforting.”
