MILESTONE COMES AS TURNER MARKS 20TH ANNIVERSARY
OF CAREER-DEFINING ALBUM YOUR MAN
CEDARBURG, Wis. — As Josh Turner marks the 20th anniversary of his career-defining album Your Man, the country star received a surprise onstage Friday night while co-headlining Country In The Burg in Cedarburg, Wis., when Scotty McCreery presented him with a plaque commemorating the album’s signature title track, “Your Man,” being certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 5 million units. The milestone is one of several new certifications for songs from the album, with “Would You Go With Me” now 4x Platinum and “Me and God” certified Gold. The moment came 15 years after Turner surprised McCreery at his “American Idol” hometown show in 2011, where the two performed “Your Man” together during McCreery’s run on the competition.
The Wisconsin setting made the reunion even more fitting. McCreery auditioned for “American Idol” just down the road from Friday’s festival, with Turner’s “Your Man” as his audition song.
Their connection to the song has continued through the years. Earlier this year, McCreery released his retrospective album 15 spotlighting a new recording of “Your Man” featuring Turner, adding another chapter to a relationship that began with the song 15 years ago.
Originally released in 2006, Your Man produced Turner’s first No. 1 hit with its title track, topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and earned two Grammy nominations. The album’s 20th anniversary is being marked this year with an expanded anniversary edition via MCA/UMe featuring the fan-favorite bonus track “Hard Headed” and live recordings.
