After her time on Team Blake was up, Jesslee was ready to use her newfound recognition to give back to those in her community. In an effort to do just that, she founded the S.T.R.O.N.G. Program with the goal of teaching youth to be confident in mind, body and spirit and to follow their passions in life. Through the power of Jesslee’s motivational music, the program guides kids and teens along the path toward self-love.
When the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought all live events to a halt, including those scheduled as part of the S.T.R.O.N.G. Program, Jesslee began to look for other ways to satisfy her desire to help. The result of her search? “21 Jump Start,” a four-track EP featuring her eponymous original “Strong” as well as covers of inspiring pop hits from Miley Cyrus, Rachel Platten and Katy Perry.
This release is guaranteed to provide you with the boost of positivity you need to jump start your 2021. Jesslee’s take on “The Climb” details the journey to happiness via her startlingly sincere, crisp vocal delivery. Her reimagining of “Fight Song” provides a whimsical haziness to the empowering ballad, aptly describing the challenge of getting back on your feet. With an arresting musical momentum, her rendition of “Rise” pushes listeners to overcome any obstacles standing between themselves and victory. But the real showstopper is Jesslee’s own “Strong.”
“Strong” is an impassioned anthem for the S.T.R.O.N.G. Program. Marked by themes of perseverance, achievement and embracing uniqueness, it provides an inspirational message about being yourself despite the opinions of others. The rising swell of the instrumental serves to represent the highs and lows we all face on a daily basis. The song reminds the audience of their own self-worth and encourages them to keep fighting.
“We are stronger than we think and sometimes just need a little motivation and love to see exactly how strong we are,” Jesslee says of the EP.
