The Steelers will honor members of the Armed Forces when they host the Carolina Panthers tonight at Heinz Field as a part of the Salute to Service game.
The game will be filled with activities to honor the military, including members from each branch of the service taking part in the Terrible Towel unfurl, all wearing a jersey bearing their branches name on the front.
The Terrible Towel Twirl will be started by military veterans and Steelers legends Rocky Bleier, John Banaszak and Andy Russell, who all played on the Super Bowl teams in the 1970s.
The Flag Foundation video will be played on the scoreboard during pregame activities, and country music star Kane Brown will perform “Homesick” (featured on his new album Experiment out tomorrow) with 80 returning soldiers from the 171st on field for it. During the performance the Army Golden Knights will parachute into the stadium.
Five active members of the military will help lead the team on the field during player intros, with each of them carrying their branch flags.
The National Anthem will be performed by former Air Force Staff Sgt. and Afghanistan War veteran Mark J. Lindquist.
The United States Armed Forces Color Guard will present the colors.
Rocky Bleier, who served in Vietnam, will do the pregame ‘pep talk’ that airs on the scoreboard.
At halftime there will be an on-field completion with active military representing each branch and competing for designated charities.
And in the third quarter there will be a special ATI Salute to Heroes featuring two heroic Medal of Honor recipients.
