Nashville, Tenn. – Former MMA fighter turned Country singer Manny Blu has released a brand-new track, titled “Old Money.” The new single, available here, is off Manny’s highly anticipated forthcoming EP, New Ink, due out Nov. 13. The Montreal native brings his distinctive blend of Outlaw Country and Rock with the bold new song that is the follow-up to his buzzed-about single, “Born To Ride,” that saw support from streaming playlists worldwide and over 200k views on the music video in only a few weeks following its release.
“‘Old Money’ is a song about true love and wanting it to last for a very long time,” said Manny, who approaches music with the same fearless spirit that set him on his original path as an MMA fighter.
Co-written by Brandon Lay, Neil Medley (Luke Bryan, Brent Cobb, Lindsay Ell) and New Ink producer Aaron Eshuis (Ryan Hurd, Scotty McCreery, A Thousand Horses), Manny brings his distinctive flair to the song that perfectly suits his distinguished, gravelly voice and builds on the storming, anthemic hook. The acoustic-led verses show he’s unafraid to embrace an early influence from blues artists like B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, before esteemed female vocalist Kristen Rogers joins him in a dominant final chorus, driving the track home with their unique blend of vocals.
Raised as a versatile athlete playing hockey, soccer, and American football before kick-starting his MMA training at sixteen years old, a leg injury left Manny unable to continue to compete, and he found himself at home recovering from a torn quadricep. He used the time to re-discover his passion for music, eventually finding an appreciation for the easygoing swagger and relatable storytelling of modern country, playing hits on an acoustic guitar for groups of friends. “I learned there’s a culture and a vibe to country music that’s like nothing else,” he said.
‘Old Money’ made its debut on one of the UK’s leading 24/7 national stations Country Hits Radio and is now available worldwide.
Track by track, Manny Blu’s forthcoming EP, New Ink takes listeners on a sonic journey mixing country, blues, and soul, with rock-based instrumentals, amplified throughout. Recorded at OmniSound Studios in Nashville and produced by Aaron Eshuis, its rock-forward approach is fitting since the title stems from one of Manny’s favorite bands, Mötley Crüe, and their album New Tattoo. One look at Manny, and it’s no secret that he’s a fan of tattoos-but to him New Ink means more than just thinking about the next one, for him, it’s the release of his inner creative expression and his new sound to the world.
Consisting of five tracks telling the stories of real-life through love and heartbreak, Manny’s upcoming EP displays substantial growth. Not only has 2020 already been a landmark year when it comes to streaming for the up-and-coming artist, it has also led to the development of global expansion with the addition of teams in the US, Canada, and the UK.
“Music is one of the most powerful elements to someone’s life,” said Manny when talking of the story behind the EP. “I think it can make what someone is going through ok, it can motivate, and empower people–so I tried to add a little piece of each of those things into New Ink.”
