In celebration of International Women’s Day, not only did Maren Morris release her highly-anticipated sophomore album GIRL, but she also interviewed the incredible singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile. Morris and Carlile, who recently took home the award for Best Americana Album (By The Way, I Forgive you) and both American Roots Song and American Roots Performance for “The Joke” at this year’s GRAMMYs, discussed on Beats 1 on Apple Music what it means to be a woman in country music in 2019, talked about the songs they’ve written, songs they wish they’d written, and songs from the women who have helped inspire them.
