Nashville, Tennessee – Black Sheep Label Recording artist, Matt Koerner, is proud to release his new single, “Stayed Alive In ’45,” a song that comes from a very personal place that he wrote not only honoring his late grandfather, Carl Joseph Turner, who at eighteen years of age fought in WWII, but also as a tribute to all of the men and women who have fought for our country and freedom. Listen HERE.
The catchy midtempo song crafted with a powerful message, and equally powerful vocals was produced by Zach Swon (The Swon Brothers). As we prepare to observe Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11, “Stayed Alive in ‘45” is centered around a tender conversation between a young Matt and his grandfather recounting his time served in WWII. “I always asked him about his experience in WWII and it was something he didn’t want to talk about but I was young and I didn’t understand why he didn’t want to talk about it so I kept asking. One day, Grandpa sat me down at his dinner table and talked to me for 3 hours about his experience and it is something I will never forget. I wanted to write a song about one of the many stories he shared with me that day when he was 18 years old and sent over to Germany to fight,” added Matt. The song came to Matt one night out of the blue and reflects this unforgettable conversation, showing his deep and vulnerable side, as well as the gifted storyteller and family man that he is.
Kathy Mac, Production Manager, 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, TN commented to Matt, “We are losing our WWII vets every day and remembering their sacrifice is really important…it touched me and I believe it will touch many people…I want to give you a bit of backstory about me…in addition to being the production manager for 3rd and Lindsley, I was also a recording artist with a band called Wild Rose, in the 1990s…we were on Capitol Records and on MCA Universal…I have listened to a lot of great music and songs in my career…it is really important to remember the sacrifices that were made for all of us. By remembering them with your song, we are better people for it…none of us would be here if not for them…if not for a different turn, that day for your Grandfather, you wouldn’t be here either…Thank you for your song and thank you for helping all of us to remember each of them and what they sacrificed to protect our world and our country.”
Matt Koerner is a singer-songwriter with substance and depth. He makes the most out of life, its lessons, and every opportunity that comes his way. Matt learned to do this as a young child growing up in a loving, close-knit family in California who was supportive of anything he endeavored to accomplish, including music. Matt’s burning ambition and sense of maturity were developed during his school years as an athlete through the discipline he learned from practice and competition. Those lessons have served him well as Matt launches his budding career in country music and with his new release.
