Nashville, TN —Country singer Matt Rogers has just announced an ambitious new project dubbed the CAPRICORN SESSIONS, along with its first new single, “Thunderbird,” released today. The aptly titled CAPRICORN SESSIONS album was recorded at the historic Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia.
The famed studio was first built in 1969 and is a major reason Macon contends as the birthplace of Southern Rock, thanks to welcoming clients like the Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, and more.
“When I saw they were renovating and re-opening Capricorn Studios, I knew I was going to have to get in there,” Rogers says. “Some of my biggest musical heroes and influences recorded there.”
The raspy-voiced Georgia native co-wrote five songs for the special session and recorded six — with the final song being a special cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa.”
“We recorded 5 songs off my album and one Allman Brothers Band cover live, acoustic, one take, and on camera so we could release this experience on video,” Rogers says. “Studio A has been relatively untouched since the early 70’s and there is certainly an energy that’s hard to describe there.”
Rogers attributes Macon and Georgia in general to his musical growth, so it makes sense that he returned to his roots to show just what he’s capable of. “It’s really where my whole music career and journey started,” he says. “The rich musical history of central Georgia has obviously reached all over the world, however, there is something special growing there again.”
Rogers ambitiously plans to release a song every week from the upcoming project, beginning with “Thunderbird” — a song with a special place in Rogers’ heart. “One of my best friends, Heath Deloach, had the idea and most of the song,” Rogers says. “It has those nuggets of our shared raising, along with childhood memories. Every song on the album means something to me, but this one is special.”
