Born and raised in Houston, TX, Mike Donnell is a powerhouse country artist who put his love for music and dreams of performing on hold to protect America’s freedom, joining the Marines straight out of high school in 2002.
While music has always been a passion for Donnell, he didn’t really begin to hone his skills until a fateful day while serving in Iraq when he discovered a guitar in a house taken over by U.S forces. “Sgt Donnell” then began to play guitar and sing along with his Marine buddies, progressing his craft from that moment on. Since returning to Texas, Donnell has been selling out venues and and his singles have charted on national radio, thanks to his ability to write and energetically perform music that is full of passion, grit, and real life experiences – music his audience can relate to.
That energy and passion has lead to three singles charting on Texas Regional Radio Chart (”Bullet Train” (2015), With You” (2018) and 2019’s “Girl in a bar”), three appearances at Rodeo Houston and once at Rodeo Austin alongside Chris Janson, as well as opening for country stars including Mark Wills, Joe Nichols, Josh Abbott, Brooks & Dunn and more. Donnell is also accompanied by a group of like-minded musicians – Adrian STX (bass), Nelson Baradat (lead guitar), Jonathan Planco (drums) and Marcus Soulo (rhythm guitar) – who are known for their energetic performance and high caliber musicianship.
Donnell’s most recent EP The Vier Volume 1 was released on July 1 and features three tracks that showcases those powerhouse vocals (think Chris Young mixed with Craig Morgan). The Vier Volume 1 is available on Spotify and iTunes.
