and its San Jose-area Bedside Performance Programs

Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities, celebrated its 20th Anniversary and the impact of its Bedside Performance Program in San Jose with a night of music at Pruneyard Cinemas, in partnership with 95.3 KRTY. Country music recording artists Jamie O’Neal and Filmore performed for an intimate crowd during a special songwriters night. All proceeds from the event support MOC’s programs in San Jose, its 20th city with the Bedside Performance Program.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 20 years as an organization and the success of our newest Bedside Performance Programs in our 20th market – San Jose! The community has welcomed us with open arms and we look forward to sharing the incredible healing effects of music with more patients, families and caregivers at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin. “It has been demonstrated that music has a direct effect on people and can provide benefits like improving blood pressure and managing stress. Over the next year, thousands of people will feel the benefits of this program, and it will all be thanks to the area’s fantastic volunteers.”

During the program, MOC also debuted a brand new installment for the Live at 35® series in partnership with Southwest®. This unique in-air experience featured Filmore performing live for passengers during a flight to California. He then visited patients at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose to perform as part of Musicians On Call’s Bedside Performance Program.

Musicians On Call piloted its San Jose program last fall and since then Volunteer Guides and Volunteer Musicians have begun visiting patients regularly at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital. To date, MOC volunteers have performed for more than 1,000 local patients, families and caregivers. Anyone interested in participating in the program can get more information at https://go.musiciansoncall.org/VolunteerInSJ.

MOC’s first Bedside Performance Program in San Jose is thanks to support from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Foundation and Good Samaritan Hospital. Both facilities share a strong commitment to improving the patient experience and the Bedside Performance Program enables them to bring joy through music on an ongoing basis. They are the first San Jose-area hospitals to offer this program to their patients, families and caregivers.

The event was sponsored by Brandenburg Family Foundation, Environmental Systems, Inc., Southwest®, Amazon Music, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Greg McMorrow & Brannons Medical.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Musicians On Call, the organization was founded in New York where it started its flagship Bedside Performance Program in 1999. During this program Volunteer Guides and Volunteer Musicians go room to room to bring live music to patients at their bedsides. To date, MOC’s programs have expanded into 20 major markets across the country and volunteers have performed for more than 750,000 patients, family members and caregivers. Musicians On Call has also been recognized as the #6 “Best Nonprofit to Work For” in the country by The Nonprofit Times.

MOC is recognizing its 20th Anniversary throughout the year with special celebratory events coast to coast, celebrity hospital visits at facilities nationwide, a 20th anniversary auction and its first-ever 20-day fundraising challenge. Throughout the year, the organization is posting its favorite MOC Moments using #MOC20 and encourages supporters to post their favorites as well.
