On Friday September 7th, Americana duo My Own and Only released their debut album The Past Year, produced by Grammy Award-nominated Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes). The all-analog recorded project from the husband and wife pair of Ben and Kassie Wilson is filled with raw, emotional lyrics that tells the up and downs of the duo’s past year. Wonderful sounds of country and Americana (traditional and electric) support the pair’s killer vocals – both individually as well as their incredible harmonies.
“This album permits the listener to peek into some of the vulnerable times over the past year of our lives,” Kassie said in a statement. “We’re excited to share these true-to-life and emotionally raw songs set to the backdrop of an all analog-recorded album,” added Ben. “It’s a musical glimpse into our honest selves.”
Take the lead single “To My Rescue” as an example. The candid lyrics describe a somewhat turbulent relationship, however no matter what was going on their love was strong enough to keep them together:
