NPR’S MORNING EDITION EXPLORES TARA THOMPSON’S ROOTS
Candid Profile Highlights Singer’s Life “from Parton’s Mountains and Lynn’s Bloodline”
NASHVILLE, TN – Tara Thompson reflected on her upbringing and the triumphs she’s experienced since signing a record deal nearly one year ago Tuesday morning (8/30) on NPR’s Morning Edition. The East Tennessee native shared off-the-cuff stories – including her brother’s wedding that occurred inside a storage unit – with the program that tallies over 33 million listeners.
Heralded for her “dishy storytelling,” Thompson debunked life as a performer on Nashville’s legendary Lower Broadway and explained the process behind her Someone To Take Your Place EP, available now. With songs like “Pregnant at the Prom” and “Jail,” the fiery songstress offers a refreshing take on her real life experiences through her songs. Her mother and grandmother (who is Loretta Lynn’s first cousin) joined the interview with Thompson, who says, “You think I’m unfiltered? Look at them!”
“A lot of Thompson’s songs are cheeky celebrations of attitudes that highbrow types might view as low class,” NPR notes and highlights that she comes from a “long line of women who find humor in life’s messier situations.”
Thompson began the year on the CMT NEXT WOMEN OF COUNTRY TOUR, opening for Jennifer Nettles and Brandy Clark and was named one of the 25 Best Things We Saw at CMA Music Fest after her performances at the festival in June. She has spent the summer playing fairs and festivals, gathering new fans across the country and proving why she is the “Loretta Lynn for the Instagram generation” according to Rolling Stone.
