The latest single from NY-based indie country artist Meghan VK, “The Hearse” is now available.
Already picking up speed ahead of its release, “The Hearse” was selected at a pitch by an A&R rep from Universal Music Publishing Group, pitched to major label artists via the team at NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International), and earned Meghan VK a seat in ASCAP’s country songwriters workshop class of 2020.
“The Hearse” stands out from the pack for not only it’s topic but the lyrical conversation around it.
“The idea for this song came about in 2019; I was driving home and saw a hearse driving to a burial with no one following it. Seeing this really made an impact, the moment was so sad and lonely. It made me wonder what this person’s story was. That moment followed me into a cowrite in early 2020, and after 5 writes together we had fully fleshed out ‘The Hearse’.”
The accompanying music video was released the same day the song hit all streaming and download services. Mixed with shots of Meghan in sprawling fields, a small old church, and beautiful scenery, are clips telling the story of a lonely soul as well. A true indie artist, the music video was filmed by Meghan with the help of her husband Scott and edited by Meghan herself. Meghan VK is more often outside the box than in it, as is her music.
The Hearse really hits home with listeners as well, often stopping them in their tracks and bringing them to tears.
