NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Part of the Plan, a new, original musical presented by K-Squared Entertainment and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), written by Kate Atkinson and Karen Harris and scored with the music and lyrics of celebrated singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, is making its world premiere in Nashville at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s James K. Polk Theater Sep. 8 – 24.
The producers are excited to announce that the show’s Guitar Arranger/Music Supervisor, Grammy® Award-winner Laurence Juber has arranged for C.F. Martin & Co. (est.1833) to donate a 000-15M Streetmaster guitar to the show. This guitar will be played in the show by two cast members: lead actor, Harley Jay, and Nashville singer-songwriter, Chris Roberts. C.F. Martin & Co. is the maker of the guitar used by the late Dan Fogelberg, bringing the world of his music full circle.
C.F. Martin is considered to be the ‘father’ of the American acoustic guitar. A native of East Germany, he set up shop in New York in 1833, launching the iconic brand favored by acoustic guitarists ever since. The list of players associated with the “Martin Guitar” is substantial and crosses genres from country to folk to rock, bluegrass to fingerpicking with names such as: Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, Elizabeth Cotton, The Kingston Trio, Steven Stills, Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton, to name just a few. Dan Fogelberg, himself, owned three of Martin’s D41 models and once said, “I’ve never found a better guitar than Martin makes.” In 2001, Dan was honored by the company with a limited-edition signature guitar.
In his search for a guitar that is played by two actors in the musical, Laurence Juber said: “I was at the Martin factory, asking about securing a guitar that had the look of a well-weathered instrument, when I noticed a prototype of a new ‘Streetmaster’ model with the patina and distressed finish that would make it perfect for its role in Part Of The Plan. Martin were kind enough to donate the guitar to the production, honoring their long relationship with Dan Fogelberg.”
