NASHVILLE – On Friday (9/11), Pinecastle Records released five singles from The Dillards’ new album, Old Road New Again. Each single was directed at a different radio format.
Americana – “Old Road New Again”
Non-Comm Radio – “The Whole World Round”
Bluegrass – “Sweet Companion”
Country – “My Last Sunset”
Folk – “Always Gonna Be You”
“Old Road New Again is an incredibly rich album that is full of great songs,” states Pinecastle label head Lonnie Lassiter. “The Dillards have always been a band that ignored boundaries and have influenced music history in so many different genres from bluegrass to country to rock. It made sense that we would share as much of this music as we could, in as many formats as we could.”
The album’s title cut, “Old Road New Again,” is a mini-history of The Dillards’ fabled musical journey and features one of the bands’ most faithful of comrades, Don Henley. The lyric name-checks or alludes to many of the artists the band influenced, jammed or worked with, including the Byrds, the Eagles, and Elton John.
“My Last Sunset” is a short course in wrapping up life’s loose ends and “making the most of the moments we have left.” The track features both Henley and Bernie Leadon.
“Sweet Companion” revels in the comforts of love that’s long-standing.
“The Whole World Round,” with special guest Sam Bush, is a bouncy evocation of wanderlust, with an imagined home at the end of the road.
“Always Gonna Be You” (featuring Henley), asks the question, “Where does a man go for redemption?”
Produced by the legendary Bil Vorndick, Old Road New Again has been #1 in Bluegrass on Amazon’s charts since its digital release on August 21. Physical copies are available as of September 11.
