NASHVILLE, TN. – Paulette Carlson best known for being part of the legendary band Highway 101, has confirmed the death of her husband, Randy Smith, born on August 6, 1950, who passed away at the age of 71 in Hamilton, Montana this past Sunday due to a heart attack. The two married in 1989 and have one daughter together, Cali, who was born in 1991.
Carlson met and fell in love with longtime Alaskan Randy Smith while taking a ferry excursion to Skagway while in Alaska, performing at a club date in Juneau. At the time, she was living in Nashville as a struggling songwriter still looking for a management deal. She later found success with Highway 101 and had four number one country hits and 10 songs in the Top 10 music charts. Classic titles like “The Bed You Made for Me,” “Whiskey, If You Were a Woman” and “Walkin’, Talkin’, Cryin’, Barely Beatin’ Broken Heart.”
Funeral services are being arranged by Daly Leach Chapel and services will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 2 pm at 1010 West Main Street, Hamilton, MT 59840.
