NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ray Scott continues to value “traditional country storytelling and artistry over chasing commercial trends (Wide Open Country)” with the release of his new EP, Honky Tonk Heart, available today.
Scott had a hand in writing each of the five songs for the project which, “should have its own warning sign—HIGHLY ADDICTIVE (One Country).” Cowboys & Indians exclusively premiered the title track, “a catchy full-blooded cowboy tune (Cowboys & Indians),” earlier this year.
The EP features three slower tunes “Leave This Town,” where Scott “uses his unique, booming baritone to heart-wrenching effect over a backdrop of acoustic guitar and aching pedal steel swells (Taste of Country),” “Thank You Baby” a song that is “chock full of countrified guitars that support Scott’s full, sincere vocals (Parade)” and “It Is What It Is,” a “pure country honky tonk heartbreaker (Wide Open Country).” “Trainwreck” rounds out the EP with a faster tempo that keeps Scott “squarely in the middle of traditional country with its pedal steel and boot-stomping melody (One Country).”
“This is my life,” Scott says. “And it’s an ode to all the other troubadours out there grinding it out on the dark highways, taking the people real country music they can get excited about.”
Honky Tonk Heart was produced by Michael Hughes, who Scott collaborated with on his previous album Guitar For Sale.
