Stuff the Truck Event Raises Money, Provides Resources and Donates Time
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Americana-country artist Renn hit the road this weekend with fellow Nashville-based artists Brinn Black and Jonathan Wells to participate in a Black-organized “Stuff-the-Truck” event, raising money and collecting resources for the victims of West Virginia’s recent flooding. The two-day drive, which took place in both Chesterfield and Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, included performances by Renn, Black and Wells, and concluded with the team delivering donations to the Armory in Richwood, West Virginia.
“Richwood is a town of 2,000 that was completely destroyed in the flood,” said Black. “The grocery store, drugstore, Dollar General – all gone. The school’s music program lost everything: instruments, sheet music – you name it. We felt a pressing need to step up and help these families begin to rebuild.”
The group did just that. In all, the stuff-the-truck event yielded 15 tons of dog food, 5,400 rolls of paper towels, 17,280 bottles of water, cleaning supplies, non-perishable foods, household items, clothing, blankets, pillows and more. Additionally, over $2,000 was raised for the Herbert Hoover High Schools Choral Program, along with a new drum set, 250 desks and 250 backpacks filled with school supplies.
“The generosity and outpouring of time, resources, and donations was unbelievable,” said Renn. “At a time when media tends to focus on the negative, it was really incredible to take part in an event that brought so much healing and offered Richwood a chance to rebuild.”
The weekends events were made possible by Walmart, UPS, The Clover Hill High School Show Choirs, and Lyrics On The Lake Songwriter’s Festival. Monetary donations can still be made at stuffthetruck.site.
