Singer/songwriter Riley Green has released an Amazon Original cover of “Where Corn Don’t Grow.” The song was originally recorded in 1990 by Waylon Jennings and made into a Top 10 Country hit by Travis Tritt in 1996. “Where Corn Don’t Grow” was written by the songwriter Mark Alan Springer, whose work has been recorded by acts such as Alabama, Kenny Chesney, and Collin Raye. In a 2015 Tennessean feature about the song, Springer told the story of growing up on a family farm in Weiner, Arkansas. After leaving for college Springer says he “ran away from his roots.” In the song, the protagonist leaves the farm for the city and finds that “the weeds are high where corn don’t grow.”
“I picked Travis Tritt’s ‘Where Corn Don’t Grow’ as my Amazon Original because it was one of my favorite songs growing up and I love the message of a father’s tradition of how you grew up and not wanting to stray too far from that,” says Green.
Alabama native Riley Green began releasing music in 2018 and dropped his widely praised debut album Different ‘Round Here last year. The album features his GOLD-certified No. 1 hit “There Was This Girl” as well as the Platinum-certified single “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” – a song People Magazine said “might take him to a whole new stratosphere,” and one he shares co-writing credits posthumously alongside his two grandfathers. Green has toured with the likes of Brad Paisley, Jon Pardi, and Jason Aldean, and has been named 2020 New Male Artist of the Year by the ACMs, a “Next Big Thing” Artist and Breakout Artist of the Year by MusicRow, and one of CMT’s 2019 “Listen Up” Artists. This past September Green shared a new EP If It Wasn’t For Trucks, with American Songwriter describing the title track as “an emotional hammer drop of a song that serves as a worthy follow-up to 2019’s ‘I Wish Grandpas Never Died.’”
