Medically speaking, rising country music singer-songwriter and rare disease advocate Dustin Chapman has overcome much in his 23 years. He has built an impressive career as an independent country artist while also fighting an extremely difficult battle with a rare esophageal disease called Achalasia; however, Chapman has been able to use music as a means of self-expression, encouragement, and a source of hope–not only for himself, but for others. Now, it is quite apparent that Chapman is ready to take his songwriting and vocal talents to the national level as he just released his brand new single “Slow Dance” and the accompanying music video.
“Slow Dance,” which was awarded a World Songwriting Award for Best Modern Country Song of Spring 2020, tells the story of a couple completely drowning out the world to focus on one another by doing something as simple as dancing, and is Chapman’s fastest rising song to date. The music video has already garnered 65,000 views between Facebook and YouTube, and the song has been distributed to country radio, with several stations calling the song the “love song of the summer.”
When talking about the reaction the song has received, Chapman said “I’m extremely blessed. Doors have been continuously opening up for my career and with that comes more recognition, more fans, and more exposure. I’m thankful for everyone who has supported me and is continuing to follow my journey. I’m also thankful for each person who is discovering my music on a daily basis and deciding to follow me and support my dreams. This would never work without the love and support of the people who believe in my talents and what I have to offer. I wholeheartedly believe in “Slow Dance” and I am glad that so many others do as well.”
The video was directed and produced by Damarest Jackson, owner and operator of True Faith Media Productions in Whiteville, NC, and was shot at the Bumminhole Lodge also in Whiteville. The song itself was written by Chapman and recorded at Studio 101 in Woodruff, SC, and produced by Brad Phillips and Ian Guthrie.
