Last night, Sam made his television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, performing his latest single, “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood”. Shot in one take at his grandfather Hank Williams Sr.’s house in Franklin, TN, the camera weaves in between different rooms of the abandoned home as Sam delivers a beautifully intimate performance highlighting his vocal prowess. Watch it now HERE.
Sam has shared three songs as a taste of what’s to come from his debut album, including “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood.” Upon its release earlier this year, the song quickly garnered attention from the likes of American Songwriter, Billboard, NPR and Rolling Stone who praised it as “a haunting performance worthy of his surname.” “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood” was preceded by “SHUTEYE” and “The World: Alone,” a song he released in honor of his late sister Katie Williams’ 28th birthday.
The grandson of country pioneer Hank Williams and the son of outlaw legend Hank Jr., Sam Williams is the latest in a long line of American originals, but he’s not here for the sake of tradition. He sings with his own singular voice and he writes in his own singular style, fusing gut-wrenching honesty and plainspoken poetics with raw vulnerability and deep empathy. Suffering such a sudden loss this past year has been profoundly devastating for Williams, but the journey of grief and self-discovery he has found himself on has led to a deeper understanding of his purpose in life and inspired him to honor his legacy with truth and integrity.
