Current Single “Gemini” Named “Song You Need To Hear”
By Rolling Stone & Sounds Like Nashville
NASHVILLE, TN – “Country music royalty” (Sounds Like Nashville) Sam Williams performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame‘s sold out Songwriter Session on Saturday, June 29, with hit songwriter Bobby Tomberlin (Blake Shelton, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers). Williams performed his father, Hank Williams, Jr.’s hit song, “Weatherman” as well as the soon-to-be-released “The River Will Flow” and “Happy All The Time.” Toward the end of his acoustic set, Williams invited his sister Holly Williams to the stage to join him for her “Gone Away From Me.”
Williams released his current single “Gemini” on June 21, the last day of Gemini season. The “nocturnal-sounding anthem” (Rolling Stone) serves as an “introduction to what Williams is all about – and how he stands apart from his famous bloodline.” (Sounds Like Nashville) “Gemini” has been hailed as one of the “Best Country, Americana Songs to Hear” by Rolling Stone as well as one of Sounds Like Nashville’s “10 Songs You Should Be Listening To Right Now.” Upon release, it landed on Apple Music’s “Best of the Week” playlist, in addition to Spotify’s “Acoustic Grit,” YouTube Music’s “Modern Day Outlaws” and “The New Americana” playlists.

One of CMT’s “Must-See Indies You Need To Know,” Williams’ striking tone and poetic approach to songwriting is poised to leave his own legacy on country music, unafraid to push his own creative limits and break through the self-inflicted limitations that threaten the genre as a whole. Williams tips his hat to the legacy his family has left behind, but is blazing his own trail. In the words of his late grandfather Hank, Sr., “to sing like a hillbilly, you had to have lived like a hillbilly. You had to have smelt a lot of mule manure.” The crooner knows he wasn’t dealt those cards and doesn’t stand for being anything but genuine.
Gemini’s are known for keeping others on their toes. Just like his father, Hank Williams, Jr., Blake Shelton, Prince, Paul McCartney, Boy George and more, the charismatic acts excel at almost anything they put their minds to. Inspired by “the new Nashville” with artists like Margo Price, Tyler Childers, Ruston Kelly and more blurring genre lines, Williams feels it’s his time to share the art he’s been crafting in the studio. Influenced by artists from Billie Eilish to Dolly Parton, his sister Holly Williams to Drake, it’s easy to see why so many have been keeping an eye on him in anticipation of what’s to come.
