Of the video, Southerland shares, “We had so much fun making this video. We are by no means actors, yet we play almost every role in the video. We would like to apologize to real actors everywhere that have to watch us destroy their craft.”
“Thing Is” is the first song released from the new duo since signing with River House Artists/Sony Music Nashville in 2019. Written by Chase, Rogers and their frequent collaborator Greg Bates, the song premiered last month to critical acclaim—Rolling Stone declares, “Matt Chase and Chris Rogers tap into the Luke Combs-led traditional-country revival with their irresistible debut single…With a Brooks & Dunn beat, snaking steel guitar, and a thumping bass breakdown, it’s yet another blast of Nineties country—a trend we’re happy to hear continue,” while Billboard praises, “a twangy, toe-tapping ode to a woman who has it, whatever that ‘thing is.’ Fun and lighthearted.”
After collaborating for several years, Chase and Rogers have developed naturally as a duo, combining the lyrical storytelling and musical foundation of traditional country music with the widespread appeal of today’s top country hits. Since meeting at a songwriting session in 2016, Chase and Rogers have shared the stage with artists such as Luke Combs, Lauren Alaina, Eli Young Band, Brantley Gilbert, Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan, Darius Rucker, Morgan Wallen and many more. Southerland is currently working on new music, additional details to be shared soon.
