New York, NY – Tami, blues and soul recording artist, announces the release of her new smooth jazz EP Together Apart, available for download today, July 31.
The exquisite 6-song EP was inspired by this remarkable moment in time. While isolating and witnessing the uncertainty of the world, Tami found comfort in music. Wanting to lend tranquility, support and love to all, Tami headed into the recording studio. With social distancing in mind, Tami and her musicians passionately recorded apart – never seeing each other in person – and in the final mixes were brought together.
“With pause comes reflection,” Tami says. “I was thinking about safety, fairness and wondering how everyone could hopefully get through this together. My band and I carefully wanted to bring you songs of hope and assurance for the unity of spirit.”
Tami personally selected each song for Together Apart. A couple of them she was set to sing at the legendary music festival SXSW before it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Others expressed the emotions that were weighing on her heart. While the EP is comprised of covers, Tami and her all-star musicians including Jerry Navarro, Walter Scott, Elijah D. Holt, and Chris West gave each song a fresh, jazz arrangement, taking them to a place where they’ve never been before.
Together Apart is the first release from Tami since her debut album Velvet & Steel in 2017. The album, produced by legendary songwriter and producer Bobby Braddock (“He Stopped Loving Her Today” “D-I-V-O-R-C-E”) captivated listeners, selling in over 65 countries. The single “The Sugar Shack” was remixed by renowned DJs and producers and reached #11 on Billboard’s Dance Chart and #8 on Music Week in the U.K. Velvet & Steel also contained “The Cure,” which featured backing vocals from Chris Stapleton.
Together Apart is not only a timepiece marking 2020, it’s another chapter in the continuous, dynamic story of Tami and her music. Just when we need it most, Tami’s soulful voice has the power and the beauty to bring us together – even if we are to safely remain apart.
