Highway transports listeners into a state of open-hearted liberation created by the vivid imagery of her effortless, sing-along lyrics:
“Hop in the truck, buckle up, headed down the back road
Grab some friends I ain’t seen since when, then we’re gonna take it slow
I got no agenda, I got no place, that I gotta be
Just my freedom and all this space where I love to be
I’m on the highway, cruisin’ along, playlist on
On a Friday, nothin’ but time, feelin’ like I can
Go anywhere under the sun, I’m havin’ fun
I’m on the highway, where I belong, where I belong
On the highway”
The feel-good, pop-country tune penned by Kate and her Christian recording artist father Jesse Watson was produced and engineered by Will Braun and mastered by Jerry Tubb.
” I remember having a rough night and I got in my car and started driving without any destination. With my music blaring, windows down, and wind in my hair, I shook everything off and let myself be. That feeling of freedom is what I want people to get from this song,” says Kate.
“I love playing this song. Being on the open road, listening to my favorite tunes with my friends, and watching everything else fade away is the feeling of this song,” shares her father and co-writer Jesse Watson, worship director at Lone Star Cowboy Church.
Highway is the highly anticipated follow-up single to Red Lipstick And A Cowboy Hat, the song that CMT Australia, Roku, and AppleTV all proudly streamed. Listen to Red Lipstick And A Cowboy Hat here.
Highway is one of six singles we can expect from Kate Watson in 2022.
