“As an artist, my goal is to use my own experiences to help other people, especially those who may be unable to speak up for themselves,” says Shane. “Because I physically depend on others for my day-to-day survival, I have a number of powerful experiences when it comes to healthcare workers. There is a serious problem with the caregiving industry, and it has gotten so bad that I specifically do not hire licensed caregivers. Throughout my life, I have been terrorized, traumatized and abused by many in the care industry. However, when character and personality are put at the forefront of the hiring process, miracles can happen. I’m living proof of that. This song is living proof of that. I’m here today because of so many wonderful people – often peers – were willing to learn how to help me live life to the fullest and become my caregiver. Anthony is a prime example of this – he was simply a friend from college who became my caregiver for a while. In addition to daily living activities, we did it all together- laughed, cried, drank, traveled, and supported each other. He accompanied me to Nashville as I was starting to live my dream and we even wrote a song together. ‘Care’ is meant to be a verb, but it seems to have lost its meaning. It is my mission to change that since we all need care now as well as in the future.”
CMT called the video “very inspirational.”

Shane teamed up with Anthony Druyan and Gene Rabbai to write the inspiring single and paired with Matt Dame to provide the recording vocals. The release is a reflection of the struggles and hardships he dealt with through living with spastic cerebral palsy, but the music video for I’m Giving In portrays a different message that is a driving force behind Shane’s platform as a speaker. As a quadriplegic, he has had to rely on caregivers for daily survival tasks and with that he has endured draining situations that have taken tolls on his mental health. Shane is using this music video to portray the abuse that is unfortunately prevalent in the caregiving industry prompting him to reimagine “care” and client-caregiver relationships.
The I’m Giving In music video release week will be celebrated by a video release event on Friday, July 23 at the 404 Bar in Nashville that evening. The event will host Shane Michael Taylor in a Q&A setting to help shine a spotlight on the uplifting work Shane is doing to promote healthier practices in the caregiver industry.
