Today, country/soul duo The Kentucky Gentlemen share their latest single “Alcohol,” a country drinking song soaked with equal parts humor, denial and a Motown groove. They recently spoke about making the track and their journey to Nashville with Sounds Like Nashville.

“‘Alcohol’ is really about the denial stage of heartbreak and grief,” the duo explains. “But like lots of people when they’re sad, we tend to turn to humor. Yes, we’re being totally self-destructive but we’re having such a good time doing it. If you’re gonna crash and burn you might as well have a buzz! Essentially, this song says ‘who needs you on this dance floor with me when I’ve got this delicious strong drink in my hand.’”

“Alcohol” follows The Kentucky Gentlemen’s February single “Whatever You’re Up For,” a sultry, catchy-as-hell country bop that combines the duo’s earliest influences of ‘90s country and R&B. Co-produced by songwriter/producer Chris Sligh (Rascal Flatts) and Grammy-nominated producer Matt McClure (Lee Brice, Dylan Scott), the song has received high praise from press, with Wide Open Country calling it “an irresistible country jam,” The Boot saying it is “the kind of inclusive, innovative banger that country radio could use more of,” and Music Row declaring “This jam is star-making stuff.”

Hailing from Versailles, KY, The Kentucky Gentlemen is the twin-brother duo of Brandon and Derek Campbell. The pair have sung together since childhood, delivering the kind of instinctual familial harmonies only siblings can share. After spending time apart in college, the two knew they needed to return to their roots and relocated to Nashville to pursue music. The Kentucky Gentlemen have been making a name for themselves ever since, building a grassroots following with their infectious live performances and upbeat blend of country and soul. Their 2021 single “Vibin’” was featured at CMT, who praised “Derek’s twanging baritone and Brandon’s timeless Southern soul.”

The Kentucky Gentlemen have been on the road with The Black Opry Revue this year, including upcoming performances in Louisville and Nashville. More info is available here: thekygentlemen.com/shows
