“The Ballad of the Reef Shadow” is the larger than life, completely inaccurate and exaggerated true story of the real vessel that became beached and sank in the summer 2017 off of the shore of Washington State. Taking the listener on a literal and metaphorical trip on the “high” seas and below, “The Ballad of the Reef Shadow” channels the classic country influences that The Lowdown Drifters have always held close with a psychedelic edge brought to life by producer Tim Allen at Modern Electric Sound Recorders.
“The Ballad of the Reef Shadow” was recorded at the esteemed Modern Electric Sound Recorders in Dallas, TX and was produced by Tim Allen (Shane Smith and the Saints, Zach Nytomt), engineered and mastered by Bradley Prakope (Shane Smith and the Saints) and with performances by Marty Rifkin (Bruce Springsteen, Dwight Yoakam, Tom Petty), Ben Hussey (American Aquarium, Dolly Shine, 6 Market Blvd.) and Drew Harakal (Cody Jinks). The Drifters have been passing their time away from concerts releasing singles, one a month, after their plans for a full album were temporarily halted by the restrictions around COVID 19. The Ballad of the Reef Shadow is the highly anticipated fourth release of 2020 following “Alright”, “Hammer Down”, and “If I Had A Dollar” which have collectively racked up over 140,000 streams on Spotify alone.
