Return Engagements at Bluebird Café Sept. 23
and Kerrville Folk Festival Oct. 8
Performances to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
(Sept. 15 – Oct. 15)
Nashville, TN — Critically-acclaimed Latina supergroup The Texicana Mamas will make their Grand Ole Opry debut on Sept. 24. The trio of Stephanie Urbina Jones, Tish Hinojosa and Patricia Vonne are excited and honored to bring their passion, fire, and love of their culture to this iconic stage. Their appearance will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15).
“To me, it’s been a dream to play the Grand Ole Opry since I worked as a demo singer for Mel Tillis’s publishing company with Buddy Cannon as a mentor and friend forty years ago,” says Hinojosa. “To be able to share the honor and walk upon that iconic stage with my compadres, Stephanie and Patricia as The Texicana Mamas, and present some insight into our Latino heritage and culture makes the experience much more meaningful.”
The Texicana Mamas will also return to the world-famous Bluebird Café in Nashville on Sept. 23. This historic venue is where The Texicana Mamas first formed as a supergroup. The magical moment happened in 2018 at the Bluebird, where songwriters come to offer their art in the purest of forms. Joined by hit songwriter James Slater, the occasion was inspiring not only to the audience, but also to the women on stage. In the normally quiet listening room, famous for its “Shhhh” signs, the audience was on its feet, singing and clapping with irrepressible enthusiasm.
Erika Wollam-Nichols, the GM for the Bluebird said, “The excitement they shared as they performed was infectious, and the multi-cultural lens they offered us was enthusiastically welcomed.”
The trio will continue the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration when they headline the renowned Kerrville Folk Festival on Oct. 8.
During the pandemic of 2020, The Texicana Mamas released their critically-acclaimed, self-titled album. Folk Alley praised their first recorded project: “The Texicana Mamas is an album for our time, for it captures brilliantly the enduring beauty of small moments of our lives woven into a fraying social fabric in which love is the thread that holds the promise for unity and hope.”
