Monday mornings are always a prime time for “exciting” announcements, and today was no exception for NASHFM’s America’s Morning Show. But it wasn’t an exciting announcement about Luke Bryan, or Blake Shelton, or Carrie Underwood.
Rather it was about one of their own, AMS co-host Blair Garner, and his departure from the show.
Garner revealed on air, and via Facebook Live, that this is his last week with Kelly & Chuck, and his reasons for leaving his morning show gig: Braxton and Ava, his 12-year old twin children.
“The most important thing to me in my whole life … I care about nothing more than being a father. And I think that parenthood is one of those things that you hear about you “must be present to win.” Well I think being a dad is a lot like that.” He later discussed the moment that he realized he had to make a change: “There was a moment probably just before Memorial Day when Ava – golly, the clarity and thought that a 12- year-old could come out and say ‘Hey Dad, you know how you promised that nothing and no one would ever come before we do?’ I said “Yeah.’ ‘I don’t always feel that way sometimes.’ And I have to tell you that rocked me back.”
Garner also talked about how important the upcoming year is for his children, joining a new school and making the tennis team and track and field squad. But he also explained that he’s not really gone, just switching shifts. His new show “The Blair Garner Show” will premier in October, replacing Kix Brooks’ “Kickin’ It With Kix.”
Ty Bentli, who will replace Garner, will join the hosts on Thursday this week.
We at TCN want to wish Blair and his family the best of luck and look forward to hearing him on the air again soon!
