Release Week Performance Planned for Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley (Saturday, Feb. 10)
“Rather than taking an easy stroll down memory lane together, (Bowen and producer Keith Gattis)
chased down imagery of desperation and indulgence and untamed, vital performances, working out of Gattis’ rugged hideaway of a studio in East Nashville.”- NPR
“(Solid Ground) effortlessly weaves through Red Dirt, country, mariachi, Tejano and rock ‘n’ roll without missing a beat. Bowen wrote or co-wrote 10 out of 11 songs here, and it shows.” – Austin American Statesman
“Each song oozes with heartfelt storytelling and unique musicianship.
There are distinct Red Dirt influences as well as mariachi and Tejano flavors and, of course, country and rock mixed in. All united by Bowen’s silky vocals, special features from Lucie Silvas as well as fellow Texans Miranda Lambert and Jack Ingram further enhance an already strong release.” – Sounds Like Nashville
New York, NY – Even after a decade-plus of success, country rocker Wade Bowen has raised the bar on his own rockstar reputation and evocative storytelling with his new album, Solid Ground, available now. He’s finding Solid Ground today at the top of the iTunes chart, as the new album soars to #1 on the Country Chart. This is Bowen’s first release on Thirty Tigers and was “the most demanding writing and recording experience of my career,” thanks in large part to his friend and respected East Nashville based producer, Keith Gattis.
Bowen’s mix of country, blues, rock and Americana has never blended as impactfully as on Solid Ground, which includes contributions from Miranda Lambert, Andrew Combs, Jack Ingram, Waylon Payne, Angaleena Presley, Jon Randall, Lucie Silvas, and Charlie Worsham among others. The players on the album are also a who’s who – Audley Freed (Black Crowes) on guitar, Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow) on guitar and lapsteel, Fred Eltringham (Wallflowers, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant) on drums, Billie Mercer (Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams) on bass, and on keys, Jenn Gunderman (Sheryl Crow), Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters), and John Henry Trinko (Randy Houser).”
The three early tracks from Solid Ground set the album’s tone by conjuring nostalgia for lost love, departures, and the glory days. “Acuña” quickly found its way to #1 on the Texas radio charts; “Day of the Dead” notably features a “mariachi influence, with accordion, Spanish guitar and a horn section augmenting Bowen’s more familiar Red Dirt shuffle” (Rolling Stone); and “So Long Sixth Street” was dubbed “a woeful missive” (Entertainment Weekly).
The cover of Solid Ground depicts a weathered map stamped into the cracked red dirt of Texas. Early reviews of its country rock sound prove that Wade Bowen has readied an album fit for those whom Springsteen, Tom Petty and Mellencamp are as influential as Guy Clark.
“Solid Ground, Bowen’s first release via Thirty Tigers, finds the artist exploring all the sounds that make Texas tick, including classic country, Red Dirt rock and south of the border Tex-Mex.” – Rolling Stone
“Bowen and Gattis — working with an ace musical lineup that also includes Angaleena Presley, Charlie Worsham, Audley Freed, Foo Fighters’ Rami Jaffee and others — set out to reflect the breadth of Texas music from the usual Americana and country to epic, extended tracks such as “7:30” and “Calling All Demons”
and even mariachi flavor on “Day Of The Dead.” – Billboard
“While varying sonically and thematically, the eleven-track collection is a cohesive one that envelopes the listener in an album that unites the myriad flavors that is Texas music while remaining uniquely Bowen.” – No Depression
“More than just a new proper studio album, Solid Ground is the newest Bowen record in the traditional sense but bolder and even better than before.” – Dallas Morning News
“The album artwork depicts the shape of Texas cracked into hard clay with hints of a state map.
If anything, it’s a symbolic representation of Bowen’s rough-around-the-edges sound. Fans of Heartland rockers
like John Mellencamp and Tom Petty feel as at home at Bowen shows as fans of country traditionalists
like Willie Nelson.”– Wide Open Country
“Texas-country favorite, Bowen picked East Nashville to create Solid Ground, a gritty love letter to his home state, filled with jangling rambling and tender touches. Produced by Keith Gattis, it simultaneously basks in glory days and looks ahead to a settled- down future.” – Chris Parton for Nashville Lifestyles
