When Nashville-based music biographer Jake Brown releases his 45th published book “NASHVILLE SONGWRITER II: The Inside Stories Behind Country Music’s Greatest Hits” on October 15, country music fans will be in for another treat. This second volume in the critically-acclaimed Nashville Songwriter series will give a first-hand telling of the stories that inspired 300 No. 1 hits by some of the biggest multi-platinum country superstars. With songs from artists like Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town, the songwriters share their stories, inspirations, and journeys that led to some of country music’s biggest hits.
One of the songwriters featured in the book is none other than Shane McAnally, whose resume includes what seems to be an endless number of hits including Sam Hunt’s “Body Like A Back Road,” Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go ‘Round” and Midland’s “Drinkin’ Problem.”
“Josh and I felt like we had walked into a dream when we met them because they legitimately wanted to make a record that sounded like our favorite music,” said McAnally about first meeting the Texan trio.
Watch below as McAnally and Josh Osborne discuss how Midland’s breakthrough hit, co-written with band-members Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson, came to be:
