NASHVILLE’S PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1 PREPARES TO RELEASE SECOND ALBUM, OL’ WHEELER;
PRE-ORDER NOW AT WHEELERWALKERJR.COM
Unrepentant country music outlier set to release second Dave Cobb-produced album on June 2;
The Wheeler Walker Jr. Podcast continues to offend
NASHVILLE, Tenn.– Country music outcast Wheeler Walker Jr. is about to be way more in your face than usual, adding more than a dozen dates to his highly anticipated The Ol’ Wheeler Tour as he prepares to release his second broadside assault on Music City, Ol’ Wheeler, on June 2, via Pepperhill Music.
Walker is celebrating the release of Ol’ Wheeler with a sold out hometown show on release day at the venerable Exit/In where most of his outlaw country heroes have thrown down at some point over the years. He’ll also play The Bowery Ballroom in New York City and a sold-out show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood before hitting the middle of the nation in July and August.
Walker’s debut album, Redneck Sh*t, caught everyone by surprise. This time around, the “unfathomably obscene and undeniably offensive” (Rolling Stone Country) singer can be seen coming a mile away with a wildly popular podcast, The Wheeler Walker Jr. Podcast and the release of three videos – including the recent raunchy release of “Puss in Boots” on adult entertainment website P*rnhub.
Ol’ Wheeler is produced by Dave Cobb with the same band put together by the elite producer for Redneck Sh*t. The album builds on that 2016 debut, which proved to be no novelty record with a debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Comedy Albums chart and No. 9 on the Country Albums chart – marking the first time in nearly a decade an album had appeared on both charts. Ol’ Wheeler takes a deeper look at life spent misanthropically on the road and in the crosshairs of Nashville’s establishment.
If interest in The Wheeler Walker Jr. Podcast is any sign, Ol’ Wheeler should make a splashy debut. The podcast debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes’ Music Podcast chart when it premiered on May 2 with an episode featuring Morgane and Chris Stapleton and currently holds the peak position. The show peaked at No. 32 on the overall podcast chart with more than 26,000 unique downloads in Week 1. Episode 2 featuring Bill Burr was up 32 percent on first-day listens over Episode 1. The third episode, featuring iconic singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver, will be released May 16.
