CHARLOTTE, Tenn. – U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Josh Ferguson and his family celebrated the dedication of their custom-built, mortgage-free home Thursday, Dec. 19. The home, located in Charlotte, Tennessee, was made possible by Operation FINALLY HOME, Building Solutions by Spann, LLC, Christian Broadcast Network’s (CBN) Helping the Home Front and the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee (HBAMT).
The Fergusons were surprised with the news they were receiving the mortgage-free home at the Grand Ole Opry during a performance by country music entertainer Craig Morgan last year (see video here). The project came full circle when Morgan surprised the Ferguson family at the dedication ceremony. Morgan was joined by Taya Kyle, New York Times bestselling author and widow of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, to hand over the keys to the new home.
“To be involved in something like this is truly humbling,” said U.S. Army veteran, country music entertainer and Operation FINALLY HOME ambassador Craig Morgan. “People don’t realize what an incredible impact this will have on the family. They won’t have to worry about a roof over their heads, heat or their kids being taken care of. It’s an honor to have been involved in this project.”
During a deployment to Iraq, Josh’s vehicle was hit by an improved explosive device (IED). He sustained injuries which left him with an above the knee amputation, shrapnel pitted over his body, a surgically repaired leg, deteriorated hips, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and more. Josh’s military career continued in the Wounded Warrior Brigade. Josh was honored with awards including a Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, GWOT Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and many more.
“It’s incredible to be part of these events and to see the community come together to provide a foundation of hope and security for those who have served us so selflessly,” said Rusty Carroll, Operation FINALLY HOME executive director. “From the build team to all of the volunteers, the Ferguson project has certainly brought this community together. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to honor Josh and his family for their sacrifice.”
Prior to Thursday’s dedication, community members gathered to provide finishing touches to make the Ferguson’s new fully-furnished house a home, including completely decorating the interior and exterior for the holidays.
