During a time when, as many have argued, “bro-country” took country music hostage, a ray of sunshine broke through to give the singer-songwriters, and especially women, hope. That ray of sunshine (literally and figuratively) was Cam. From her vocals, to her songwriting, to her signature color yellow – here are five reasons why she’s our #WCW!
1. Her voice. Anyone whom has heard Cam’s breakthrough “Burning House” has found themselves captivating by the hauntingly beautiful vocals protruding from their speakers. Her follow-up single, “Mayday,” and subsequent tunes from her debut album Untamed, display a unique boldness – this Californian possess a unique versatility in her voice that is just hypnotizing.
2. She reminds of us a daisy. Not just because of her recurrent ensembles in shades of yellow (although it does contribute), but because she radiates the friendliness and innocent, truthful beauty that daisies represent.
3. She’s incredibly smart. Studying Psychology at the University of California, Davis, Cam left the prospect of a doctorate degree for the uncertainty of the music industry. Fortunately for her (and for us), that gamble paid off.
4. Her creativity. She co-wrote all of the 11 songs on Untamed, proving this new artist is not from a generic mold with her personally vulnerable narratives.
5. Those curls. Seriously, how could you not love them? When most women are hiding theirs, spending insurmountable amounts of money to straighten and relax their luscious locks, Cam has always embraced hers. Kept in a neatly trimmed bob, they perfectly shape her gorgeous face and instantly turn heads.
