It goes without saying that this country hunk has been on a multitude of hot bachelor lists, written some of THE most prolific songs of love and heartbreak, and has masterfully brought just about every woman to her knees with just one wry smile. It’s that very sex appeal and some of the most endearing factors that makes Chris Young this week’s #MCM.
1. His songwriting is incomparable. He has amassed seven number one hits, four Gold albums, and multiple Gold and Platinum singles over his 10 year span since winning the reality show Nashville Star. Chris has songwriting prowess – his songs, most co-written by him, are written with life, love, and hardship in mind. “Getting You Home,” Young’s first number one hit and uniquely dubbed “the little black dress” song by fans, is a sexy number written by Young, Kent Blazey and Corey Batten about taking your woman out, but all you’re thinking about is getting her home for some loving. Lyrics like: “Walking through the front door/ seeing your black dress hit the floor/ Honey there sure aint nothing/ like you lovin me all night long/ And all I can think about is gettin’ you home” is enough to drive anyone insane. “Voices” written by Chris Tompkins and Craig Wiseman takes on a different tone, but totally relatable. It stems from family (Young’s own family members are featured in the video) and all their wise words for someone growing up. The positive lyrics like “My dad saying “work that job but don’t work your life away”/ Momma tellin’ me to drop some cash in the offering plate on Sunday” resonate with just about everyone. Other notables for Mr. Young that have spawned into hits are “Tomorrow”, “I’m Comin Over”, and his first duet with Cassadee Pope “Think of You”.
2. His killer good looks and those damn dimples are nothing to take lightly. His luscious chocolate locks, facial scruff, and those ever present dimples have been the most talked about features for Chris. While in his early days, he covered up that thick mane with his signature black hat, he has since allowed those curls to roam free. He has also been clean shaven in the past leaving fans, especially women, to prefer the scruff. Alas, that scruff, albeit well trimmed doesn’t mask those deep cavernous dimples. Whether it’s a big smile or a devilish smirk, those baby’s stick right out!
3. A Chris Young Concert is one that should not be avoided. His effervescent stage presence and high intensity performances are why fans flock to any and all of his shows. His antics with his band is like a brotherhood at a local fraternity – from wiping the brow of his lead guitarist, to holding the drumsticks of his drummer while he shows off his drum skills, to standing, intently watching his electric guitar player as if paying homage. These, along with playing fan favorites new and old, sometimes ones that weren’t made as singles, are why fans come to see him.
4. His love of family, fans, and his job are pretty evident when Chris opens up. It’s usually the first thing out of his mouth when asked what he’s grateful for. Chris has no problem sharing his love of his family, especially his 4 year old niece with his fans. Whether it’s posting a photo of a gift for the young one, taking his Mom to her first award show, or buying his Dad a fishing boat for Christmas, he’s proven that family is the almighty to him. At concerts you can just see how much his fans mean to him as well. He constantly gives praise to his fans about their being the reason he’s doing what he loves. Speaking of which, it’s his music, his songwriting, and everything that he’s accomplished in the last ten years, what’s made him happy the most. He shares surprises, like new music for fans. He’s been said to have run a few of the new Christmas songs off his first Christmas album It Must Be Christmas with his family.
5. Sharing and caring about others, especially those whose charities he’s been involved with. This guy may have a large 6’4” frame, but he’s got the heart of a teddy bear. He’s donated time and money to St. Jude, Has performed and is on the Board for Stars and Stripes, and has recently set up a scholarship fund at his alma mater Middle Tennessee State University. Last but not least, he’s teamed up with the Marine Corp for their Annual Toys for Tots Campaign. Chris’ sister, Dot and her husband are former Marines.
