East Tennessee native Tara Thompson may seem new to the music business, but you could say she was born into it as her third-cousin is none other than the legendary Loretta Lynn. So it should be no surprise to hear a little Loretta and Patsy Cline in Thompson’s style as well as newer generation legends Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves, resulting in fans both new and old finding her very endearing thus making Thompson this week’s #WCW.
1. Her songwriting comes from true stories. Thompson writes specifically from past experiences, such as a failed relationship in “Someone to Take Your Place,” her first single released on the Big Machine Label; a quirky tune telling her ex that she’s ok if he breaks up with her for she’ll find someone else. There’s the wise advice from her mom about getting old too fast:“Pregnant at the Prom” details a mother’s poignant experience from growing up too quickly and how she handled it with grace. “Vows” is a very sarcastic to the point observation about her sister’s impending wedding and how, in her mind, it’s bound to be short lived.
2. Maytag Monday’s isn’t about doing laundry in your Maytag washer on a Monday, rather it’s the mini videos Thompson puts out on her YouTube channel. The videos consist of a variety of comedic skits from Thompson dressed as a hotdog on the Nashville Party Barge giving away free hot dogs to her having a makeover party with Miss Nevada. The videos are fun and show Thompson’s comedic character.

3. #DatingTipTuesday: Scroll through Thompson’s Instagram account and you will find Thompson’s #DatingTipTuesday posts: bright turquoise squares with excellent, and sometimes blunt dating advice. These posts have become quite the favorite among her fans. Perhaps we should address her as Dr. Tara Thompson?
4. She’s Keepin’ It Country: Thompson can glam up with the best of them, but she wears a simple cap, shirt and jeans combo the only way a true country girl can!
5. She’s a fan just like us: Thompson’s influences include many of country’s royalty – from her cousins Loretta and Crystal Gayle, to Tanya Tucker and Merle Haggard, but she is a HUGE fan of the Red Headed Stranger himself, Willie Nelson.
