Aaron Watson Brings Life to New Album, Vaquero

Texas native Aaron Watson has 17 years in the business, has spent countless hours performing at shows, and has collaborated with the likes of Willie Nelson.  He has amassed a hefty following, even selling more tickets to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo than FGL, Dierks Bentley, and ZZ Top.  He even entertained a packed Tootsie’s in Nashville on 2/9/17.  Despite the massive following, his road to stardom has been paved with rejections; fortunately for us, Watson never backed down and never gave up.  That determination helped in his release of 12 albums – now comes lucky 13, as his highly anticipated Vaquero is slated for release on February 24, 2017.

Vaquero, in translation, is a Spanish horseman or in modern times, a cowboy, a concept that describes Watson to a tee – co-produced with Marshall Altman, Watson co-wrote all 16 songs with Mac McAnally, Leslie Satcher, Kendall Marvell, and more. Each song is written for hard working people, love, and life of the people in his home state. The lead-off single, ‘Outta Style,’ is an ode to a love that no one thought would last:

We’re never going outta style
I was thinking… while the sun is sinking… low we could go all night
Never going outta style in my Chevy, parking at the levy
Getting hot and heavy after all this time
The trends will come and go
The winds of change will blow
The way we love is never going outta style singing

With a mix of heavy fiddle and guitar, this anthem-esq tune has a catchy pop sound that is easy on the ears.  This album is truth and Watson’s vocals, writing, and execution, showcases each one eloquently.

Family and the life he leads in Texas is very evident on the album.  One notable song, one he wrote for his 4 year old daughter is a bittersweet tune that is and will be the new “Father/Daughter’s first dance at any wedding.  Diamonds & Daughters starts when a father reminisces about his baby girl.  With soft strumming of a guitar, Watson’s vocals create a picture perfect walk down memory lane with his little girl.

If you’re a Dierks Bentley fan, then ‘These Old Boots Have Root’s is a one to give a listen to.  With heavy fiddle, Watson sings of love and the principles one learns from generations of family;  ‘Be My Girl’ is a straight-up sexy, sensual love song. Watson has definitely showed he’s a romantic.

I’ve got a blanket and a bottle of wine/ lets strip it down and see what we can find/ Oh my my, be my girl tonight/ I’ve got a heartache, you’ve got yours/ Let it all fall on our bedroom floor/  Oh my my, be my girl tonight

Watsons vocals and soft instrumentation in the background will have you wanting more.

Watson shines with Vaqero – with his crystal clear vocals and amazing writing, he’s pulled off an amazing sequel to 2015’s The Underdog.
