Country music’s vocal dynamo Carrie Underwood has definitely had her say through song in her career. There’s the Louisville swinging girlfriend in “Before He Cheats”, the jilted widow and mistress in “Two Black Cadillacs” to more serious topics of abuse with “Blown Away” and “Little Toy Guns”, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that with the recent release of her second single, “Love Wins,” she broaches the subjects of hatred, politics, and prejudice.
Written by Underwood, David Garcia and Brett James, the tune centers on the gentle sound of an organ as a guitar is softly strummed into a somber portrayal of brokenness and heartache (“A stray bullet and a mama cries / Her baby won’t be coming home tonight”) and touches on tough subjects of today, politics and prejudice (“Politics and prejudice / How the hell it’d come to this, When everybody’s gotta pick a side / It don’t matter if you’re wrong or right”). With a gospel choir singing background, Underwood’s powerful vocals carry this anthem – a message of working together, loving one another, and realizing that love, not hate, wins:
‘Cause I, believe you and me
Are sisters and brothers
And I, I believe we’re made to be here for each other
And we’ll never fall if we walk hand in hand
Put a world that seems broken together again
Yeah I, I believe in the end
The cleverly written lyrics and passionate vocals easily pull the listener from a world torn-up by hate into an almost heavenly scene of sunshine, people smiling and leaning on each other into lifting the spirit of society.
The newly released video, depicts just that: a sad world and frowned faces into people laughing and working together to create peace.
Underwood announced earlier her planned “Cry Pretty” Tour to begin in the Spring of 2019. Visit her website for ticket and music information: www.carrieunderwoodofficial.com.
