It’s no secret – Frankie Ballard loves him some Bob Seger. Even though the 34 year old Ballard wasn’t born when a particular hit took the 14th position on the Billboard 100 back in 1980, he’s showing fans his love mixing new with old, going back in time with his remake of Seger’s classic “You’ll Accomp’ny Me.”
Ballard has expressed his love of the Blues and this remake is no exception – he studied guitarists such as Buddy Guy, but it’s his taste for all musical genres that has coincided with his James Dean good looks. Before coming to Nashville, the Michigan native spent a lot of time honing those guitar skills until he perfected it, performed in bars, and traveled the country with big name acts including Bob Seger, one of Ballard’s idols and fellow Michigan native.
His voice is crisp and effortless in that the student has followed the master’s footsteps to a tee, keeping the integrity of “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” as it was 36 years before. The tune, written by Seger himself, appeared on the Against The Wind album in 1980 and was written about a man letting his woman know that she’s worth it to risk everything to have her by his side.
A gypsy wind is blowing warm tonight
The sky is starlit and the time is right
And still you’re tellin’ me you have to go
Before you leave there’s something you should know
Yeah something you should know babe
I’ve seen you smiling in the summer sun
I’ve seen your long hair flying when you run
I’ve made my mind up that it’s meant to be
Someday lady you’ll accomp’ny me
The single can be found on Ballard’s latest album “El Rio”. Look for Frankie while he’s on tour to hear the classic tune for yourself. In the meantime, give it a listen.
