Chris Stapleton’s big night at the CMA Awards had everyone talking about the “return of real country music” and Josh Thompson’s new single, “Same Ol Plain Ol Me” can help keep those hopes alive.
The first track off of Thompson’s long awaited EP Change: The Lost Records Vol 1, “Same Ol Plain Ol Me” is a “what you see is what you get” type of song as Thompson explains simply and honestly that no matter what may be done to him, he will still be the same person he has always been:
You can take me out of the pick-up truck and put me in a Cadillac
Shave my face and cut my hair, throw some new clothes on my back
Sit me down in a fancy restaurant
I’d still order up ketchup and sweet tea
I’d be the same ol plain ol me
Besides the straight from the heart lyrics, which were penned by Thompson, Rhett Atkins and Ben Hayslip, “Same Ol Plain Ol Me” stands apart from the majority of what is heard today thanks to its honky-tonk feel. The catchy song provides plenty of steel guitar (with a guitar interlude), twang and a beat that you can line-dance to.
“Same Ol Plain Ol Me,” as well as Change: The Lost Records Vol 1, is available for purchase on iTunes. Change: The Lost Records Vol 2 is expected to be available sometime in 2016.
