Kayla Ruby has released “Belong to a Place,” her second single from her upcoming debut EP Reckless And Brave. Written by Ruby and Joshua Olsen, “Belong to a Place” follows her debut single “Never Really Know Somebody” which has gained over 150,000 Spotify streams since its release in October.
A natural story-teller, Ruby’s visual lyrics transports the listener to a small town as she chronicles the life of a man who has lived through changes in his life and within the community he is deep rooted in:
Should have seen him in his glory days
Back when this town was more than a truck stop off the interstate
Wife and kids and a good name
Lost two boys in the war, such a damn shame
He’s never quite been the same
If you ask him why he stays
He’ll say how it’s hard to walk away when you belong to a place
By the conclusion of the song, the pronouns change to “I” and “me” as Ruby sings from her own perspective, bringing the song full circle. ““Belong to a Place” is a song that really touches on the idea that no matter where you go or how long you’re gone, a little piece of your heart will always be where you came from,” said Ruby about the nostalgic track.
