Lauren Alaina, the Georgia native with a friendly smile and infectious personality, has been gracing us with her presence on stage and in the studio through two albums, Wildflower and Road Less Traveled, which garnered her first #1 hit and a CMT award for Breakthrough Video. She’s earned multiple nominations, an ACM Award for Vocal Event of The Year for the double platinum #1 hit “What Ifs” with classmate Kane Brown, and now this spunky sweet Georgia peach has just released her latest single “Ladies Of The 90’s.”
The tune, written by Alaina, Jesse Frasure, and Amy Wadge, centers around the women who made their mark in music during the 20th century’s final decade. Paying homage to the artists she mimicked and strived to be like (The backseat’s where I started singing / All the songs that got me dreaming / I’d scream, “Turn it up”, then I’d lose it), Alaina references country icons Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Reba McIntire, to pop’s Britney Spears, TLC, Destiny’s Child, and Madonna. With clever songwriting, Alaina tips her hat to her idols by intermittently including their songs in this infectious upbeat tune, which is nothing short of magnificent:
I just wanna feel like ladies in the 90’s
Turn the dial and find me some Strawberry Wine
So I can sing all night long, acting like I’m Britney
Come on baby, hit me (just) one more time, hey
Man, I feel like a woman
I can feel you breathe when you say my name
Hey, I don’t want no scrubs
Need a cowboy to take me away
I wanna feel like ladies in the 90’s
Ladies in the 90’s, hey hey hey
The anthemesque song showcases a more pop side of Alaina, but never strays from her impressive vocal chops. With great instrumentation and production, the track will warm up dance clubs on any cold night.
