When Midland released their debut album On the Rocks in September, the trio based out of Dripping Springs, TX brought back a ‘70’s and ‘80’s California style to country music; think The Eagles or Keith Whitley. Their first single “Drinkin’ Problem”, which was certified Gold by the RIAA, followed by their current single “Make A Little” highlights the vocal harmonizing and writing creativity of these three friends. And they are real friends who stumbled into making music together. When asked their secret to great music, singer Mark Wystrach, lead guitarist Jess Carson and bass player Cameron Duddy credit their real friendship. Each song they write and record is meant to tell a story and “Make A Little” paints a picture of love conquering all.
It’s a hard living, tail kicking
Trip that we’re all on, but I’m betting
We can find a little sunshine in the night
It’s a back breaking, soul taking
Road we walk, so what are we waiting for?
Baby let’s turn off the lights
‘Cause girl, there’s just not enough love in the world
So we should make a little
Generate a little
Maybe even make the world a better place a little
We could turtle dove, Dixie land delight
You know it can’t be wrong when it feels so right
It all comes down to you and me girl
There’s just not enough love in the world
So we should make a little
Then make a little more tonight
This trio is able to take you to a romantic interlude without making you feel the need for a shower after listening to it. Got a problem? Just “make a little, generate a little, maybe even make the world a better place a little”. “Make A Little” is more of a feel good song than their first release, and the catchy melody brings the lyrics to life in your mind. Isn’t that what a song should do? Capture your imagination so that you put yourself into the music? Mark Midland’s mission accomplished.
