“That Don’t Sound Like You” is the third single off Lee Brice‘s 2014 album I Don’t Dance. The song was penned by Brice, along with Rhett Atkins and Ashley Gorley.
When I first heard this song I thought “this is gonna sound like everything else.” But it has a nice build-up to the chorus. What immediately catches my ears’ attention is the souring guitars. To know me is to know I love guitars.
The song talks about a woman that the narrator barely recognizes anymore. She has completely changed herself in submission to another guy. The narrator doesn’t even recognize her voice anymore, hence the title “That Don’t Sound Like You”. Her current self is compared to when she was more carefree and easy going.
One thing I’ve noticed about Lee Brice is that he writes and picks songs that are lyrically relatable. Yes, everyone can relate to a basic love song, but Brice goes beyond that and gets more specific.
If you’re a fan of Lee Brice then you’ll like this single. “That Don’t Sound Like You” doesn’t take any risks or venture into unfamiliar Brice territory.
