When it comes to vocal performance, writing ability and sheer musical talent Steven Tyler is widely considered one of the top dogs. He sent tongues wagging in 2015 with the announcement that his first solo project would fall under the country genre – the unexpected news was met with mixed reactions, as some fans were excited, others were frustrated and confused, yet all were curious.
In May 2015 the curiosity was eased when Tyler released his first country single “Love Is Your Name,” prior to his coast to coast Country Radio Station tour. Steven worked hard throughout the summer, letting everyone know his love for the country genre and rebranding himself as a country artists as opposed to the front-man rocker of the legendary band, Aerosmith.
“Love Is Your Name” received many positive reviews, Rolling Stone calling it “towering” and citing Tyler’s voice as “powerful and raw.” Unfortunately, even with many positive reviews and being picked up by most country stations across the country, fans simply didn’t embrace it the way people expected or hoped, leaving a question in regards to what Tyler would do next. Fans wondered if they should expect the release of more singles, and some even questioned if they would scrap the entire album set for release later this year.
January 7th we received our answer with the announcement that the follow up single “”Red, White & You” will be hitting airwaves January 25th and will available through digital partners and streaming services as early as January 22nd. Tyler co-produced the album, along with Dann Huff, and co-wrote the track along with Nathan Barlowe, Levi Hummon and Jon Vella.
“Red, White, & You” hits on all the country favorites: summertime, patriotism, and American Girls. Combine that with the songs upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics and then add in Tyler’s unrivaled vocal ability and this one has everything it takes to not only become a hit, but also a summertime playlist staple.
Bang bang baby like the 4th of July, A Lightning strike in the midnight sky
Don’t give a damn about the summertime blues, All I need is red white and you
Peel off those colors babe, tell me you’re gonna stay
American girls making dreams come true
All I need is red white and you
After just one listen I found “Red, White, & You” running through my head, all the while bringing a smile to my face. Since then I’ve listened to it countless times, and can definitely say I’m a fan. I anticipate “Red, White, & You” faring much better than “Love Is Your Name,” and expect it’ll quickly become a fan favorite, heard at bonfires and tailgate parties for years to come.
We are categorizing this one as one you don’t want to miss and strongly encourage all of you to give it a listen. Then don’t forget to check back and let us know what you think.
