What do you do after a year of touring with Jason Aldean, releasing your seventh album and being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry? If you’re country music crooner Chris Young you head back out on the road with your own headlining tour, score your tenth number one, receive an ACM nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year, be part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s American Currents exhibit (as of March 9th) and release another romantic, sweet, albeit sexy, love song.
The second single from the chart topping album Losing Sleep, “Hangin’ On” follows the title track that notched Young’s tenth number one. Written by Young with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, “Hangin’ On” is poised to be his eleventh.
“Hangin’ On” begins with those moments when you see someone who takes your breath away with just a smile, making you want to hang on as long as you can. The song’s up-tempo melody is still slow enough so you can embrace that special someone and spin them around the room.
It ain’t the song, and it ain’t the playlist
It’s every smile coming off of your sweet lips, yeah
That makes me wanna stay here
No, this ain’t a one night, one time thing
You always light me up like a flame and it’s clear
Every time you’re near
Yeah, I’m hangin’ on, hangin’ on
To every word you say
Every move you make
I’m hangin’ on, hangin’ on
Wondering what’s up next
Girl, I can’t wait
Ain’t nothing like spinning you around the room
Where everyone can see
You hangin’ on, hangin’ on to me
Yeah, you hangin’ on to me
So let me pull you a little closer
Even when the music’s over
The music video, directed by Jeff Johnson, spotlights a couple as they see the city sights, frolic on the beach, tear up the waves on a Sea-Doo before finally making their way into the audience of Young’s beachside concert. Johnson’s direction includes amazing shots of the beautiful Florida beach-town Clearwater as the camera accompanies the couple throughout their day.
If “Hangin’ On” leaves you wanting more of Young’s flawless vocals, rhythmic melodies and romantic interludes, you can visit his website, www.chrisyoungcountry.com to see where you can catch up with him on his Losing Sleep World Tour, resuming April 5.
